Fieldwork is under way
Our 2012 field season ended on January 2nd of this year — a long slog from an early spring (90-degree temps in March) to a deeply buried urban site in December that we kept from freezing by covering with hay. Never underestimate the insulating quality of straw and grass!
Thankfully, the 2013 fieldwork has begun at a time when the staff and I were more prepared for it. We just spent a glorious two days up at the Dolly Copp Campground in the Whites on those two days last week where the temps were in the 70s, snow still visible on Mount Washington. Enchanting juxtaposition! And on the last day, we discovered — yes, my favorite — a wood-lined privy.
